Posi SmartPTO V3 Quick Start Guide

Posi quick start for the SmartPTO V3: power-on with engine running, switching pumps at the lower controls, two-speed throttle, LED array, and charging.

Powering On the SmartPTO
  • When arriving at the work site, leave the vehicle engine running, with the key switch in the ON position.
  • Prior to leaving the cab, turn ON the cab-mounted Vehicle PTO switch on the dash/overhead.

Efficiency Tip: While the vehicle is still running, switch the chassis hydraulics to “outrigger mode” and deploy outriggers using the vehicle PTO to prevent wasting available SmartPTO energy.

  • At the SmartPTO Main Control Panel, ensure the Emergency Stop pushbutton is reset. To reset the Emergency Stop, TWIST clockwise and PULL outward to allow the pushbutton to return to the OUT (reset) position.

  • At the lower controls, switch out of “outrigger mode” and then Press and Hold the ENGINE START/STOP button until the diesel engine stops.
  • Press and Release the ENGINE START/STOP button once to energize the SmartPTO unit for operation. The Touch Encoder display activates.

  • To start the SmartPTO hydraulic pump, PRESS and HOLD the Pump Toggle switch for 2 seconds. When the hydraulic pump is activated, the Touch Encoder display will switch to the “Pump Status” screen (below), which shows operational status.

  • Utilize the vehicle’s hydraulic systems per the normal procedures:
    • Operate the overhead boom or winch
    • Use hydraulic tool attachments or outriggers
Switching Between SmartPTO and Engine Pump

To switch from SmartPTO Pump to Engine Pump, with SmartPTO operating:

  • Press and Release the ENGINE START/STOP button once to stop the SmartPTO hydraulic pump.
  • Press and Hold the ENGINE START/STOP button to start the diesel engine for hydraulic system operation. The hydraulics then work from the engine PTO pump.

To switch from Engine Pump to SmartPTO Pump, with engine operating:

  • Press and Hold the ENGINE START/STOP button until the diesel engine stops running.
  • Press and Release the ENGINE START/STOP button once to start the SmartPTO for hydraulic system operation. The hydraulics then work from the SmartPTO pump.

Efficiency Tip: When the chassis hydraulics are in “outrigger mode”, switch modes or turn OFF the SmartPTO pump as promptly as possible when work is completed to prevent wasting available SmartPTO energy.

  • Plug into the SmartPX J1772 EVSE (Level 2) charging port using a properly rated J1772 Charging Connector.
  • Press and HOLD the Level 2 “Activation” button to initiate the charge session.
