Quick answer. Position the truck and turn the vehicle ignition off. Confirm the Vehicle Power Selector Switch is off, turn the keyswitch on, then press and hold the Generator Toggle for two seconds. When the indicator shows solid green, turn the Power Selector Switch to VIATEC and use the 120V and 240V outlets.

 

This quick start covers the WorkForce Power Generator (formerly SmartPX): how to start it, use the AC outlets, shut it down, charge it on Level 1 or Level 2, and read the generator indicator.

How do you start the WorkForce Power Generator?

  1. Position the vehicle for work on the job site, then turn off the vehicle ignition.
  2. Confirm the Vehicle Power Selector Switch is in the OFF position.
  3. Turn the keyswitch next to the display to ON. The touchscreen turns on.
  4. Press and hold the Generator Toggle switch for two seconds to activate the electric generator.
  5. Confirm the generator indicator on the touchscreen shows solid green (running).
  6. Turn the Vehicle Power Selector Switch to VIATEC (position 1).
  7. Shut down and disconnect all devices drawing power from the unit.
  8. On the Vehicle Power Selector Panel, switch to OFF.
  9. On the unit's panel, press and hold the Generator Toggle switch for two seconds to shut down the generator.
  10. Turn the keyswitch on the panel to OFF.

NOTE If the indicator turns red during repeated startup attempts (two or more), revert to using the BOSS generator conventionally by running the engine.

How do you use the power outlets?

With the Power Selector Switch set to VIATEC, use the vehicle-mounted 120VAC and 240VAC outlets as needed.

Both charge receptacles are on the back of the truck, street (driver) side. Use either or both.

Level 1

  • The keyswitch can be either on or off.
  • Plug into the Level 1 charging port using a cord rated for at least 15 amps.
  • The keyswitch must be on.
  • Plug into the Level 2 charging port using a properly rated J1772/EVSE charge cable.
  • The keyswitch can be turned off or left on during charging.

Level 2

WARNING Using an improperly rated cord or cable can cause it to heat up, melt, or start a fire.

What do the generator indicator colors mean?

Indicator

Meaning

Grey

Generator is off.

Flashing green

Generator is starting.

Solid green

Generator is running.

Red

Start fault. If it recurs across repeated attempts, revert to the BOSS generator by running the engine.

How do I start the SmartPX generator?

The generator indicator turned red. What do I do?

What is the difference between Level 1 and Level 2 charging?

Level 1 uses a cord rated for at least 15 amps and works whether the keyswitch is on or off. Level 2 uses a properly rated J1772/EVSE cable and requires the keyswitch to be on to start; it can then be left on or turned off during charging.

What do the generator indicator colors mean?

Grey is off, flashing green is starting, solid green is running, and red is a start fault.

What cord do I need to charge it?
