WorkForce Power Take-Off · formerly SmartPTO · V2 Quick Start (August 2022)

Quick answer. To start the unit: shut the engine off, turn the key back to ON without starting the engine, press the dash SmartPTO switch (and confirm the vehicle PTO switch is on), reset the Emergency Stop, then press and hold the Pump On switch for two seconds. Verify motor RPM and pump pressure on the touchscreen before operating.

This quick start covers the WorkForce Power Take-Off (formerly SmartPTO) V2 unit with the touchscreen display: how to power it on, operate the boom and outriggers, switch between the unit and the diesel engine, shut it down, and charge it.

How do you start the WorkForce Power Take-Off?

  1. Turn off the vehicle ignition and let the engine stop. Then turn the ignition key back to the ON position without starting the engine. This keeps accessories (strobes, work lights) running.
  2. If you want the optional HVAC, set fan speed to high, position the airflow switch, turn the temperature to coldest, and activate recirculation.
  3. Press the SmartPTO switch on the dash to turn the unit on. Confirm the vehicle PTO switch is also enabled before leaving the cab.
  4. If using the optional HVAC, press the eAC switch on the dash.
  5. Open the access panel to the Main Control Panel. Confirm the Emergency Stop is reset (twist and pull) and the touchscreen display is powered.
  6. Press and hold the Pump On switch for two seconds to activate the hydraulic system.
  7. Verify motor RPM and pump pressure on the touchscreen display.
  8. Deploy the vehicle outriggers per your normal operational sequence.
  9. Switch to the overhead boom and operate it per your normal operational sequence.
  10. Stow the overhead boom, then retract the outriggers.
  11. Press and hold the Pump On switch for two seconds to shut down the hydraulic pump.
  12. Turn off the optional HVAC with the eAC switch on the dash.
  13. Turn off the unit with the SmartPTO switch on the dash.

Note For peak efficiency, the electric A/C discharges slightly warmer air than the vehicle's own A/C system. This is normal.

How do you operate the outriggers and boom?

How do you switch between the unit and the diesel engine?

From the bucket, use the ENGINE START STOP plunger:

  • To switch from the unit to the diesel engine: press the plunger once to stop the unit, then press and hold it to start the diesel engine.
  • To switch from the diesel engine back to the unit: press and hold the plunger until the diesel engine stops, then press it once to start the unit.

How do you shut it down?

NOTICE Shut off the pump as soon as possible after retracting the outriggers.

How do you charge it?

Plug into the charging port using a properly rated cord, rated for at least 15 amps continuous. The unit draws about 10 to 11 amps for the charge cycle. For state-of-charge targets and storage timing, see the Battery Health and Storage Guide.

WARNING Using an improperly rated cord can cause it to heat up, melt, or start a fire.
